Kagoshima University’s Inter-University Exchange Project receives an ‘A’ assessment in its mid-term evaluation.

In 2018, our university was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for the “FY2018 Inter-University Exchange Project~ Support for the formation of inter-university exchange with the U.S. and other countries using COIL- type education ~ “.

In this project, nine universities in the U.S., nine universities in Asian countries, and Kagoshima University, acting as the organizing body, aims to establish the trilateral cooperation, to develop problem-solving research programs characterized geographical uniqueness and cultural boundaries based on the natural environment and local communities in Kagoshima, and to perceive local issues from a global perspective and work toward the sustainable development of local communities through the use of Cooperative Online International Learning (COIL). We also intend to increase interactive exchanges with the United States and other countries by promoting the attractiveness of Kagoshima.

We were notified of the results of the interim evaluation by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and we received an overall evaluation of A (the second highest evaluation on a five-point scale). In addition, this project underwent as a self-evaluation appraisal by an external evaluation committee and received an overall evaluation score of S (the highest evaluation on a five-point scale). 

With the world undergoing major changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, expectations and attention are being drawn to the importance of using COIL in international education and its infinite possibilities. Our University, which is at the forefront of this initiative, will contribute to society by disseminating the outcomes of this project to date based on the results of this evaluation, and will continue to work diligently to achieve the project objectives.
