  • RAZ SHAUQEENA BATRISYEA (University Malaysia Terengganu/Malaysia)

During the program, I was attached to the Faculty of Science under the supervision of Dr. Daisuke Uyeno. My academic activities primarily focused on research in the taxonomy of polychaetes, conducted under the expert guidance of Prof. Masanori Sato and Prof. Hiroaki Tosuji.

I also actively participated in weekly student progress presentations, which provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and receiving constructive feedback. As part of the lab’s academic culture, I had the opportunity to present my research to fellow labmates and Dr. Uyeno, helping me to improve my scientific communication skills.

My time in Kagoshima also offered numerous opportunities for cultural exploration and language learning, which greatly enriched my overall experience. I enrolled in Japanese language classes for beginners provided by the university, and had the chance to learn traditional culinary skills through maki sushi and soba noodle making workshops. I also joined the lively Ohara Matsuri and celebrated the New Year at Terukuni Shrine, gaining firsthand experience of local customs and traditions.

These achievements have strengthened my academic foundation and broadened my perspective, making this exchange an invaluable part of my personal and professional development.

  • Supapich Chalumput (Mae Fah Luang University/Thailand)

My learning journey in Kagoshima was an enriching experience that broadened my academic, linguistic, and cultural horizons. Conducting experiments, taking a language course, embracing traditional customs, and participating in a matcha class allowed me to immerse myself in various aspects of Japanese life. These activities not only enhanced my skills and knowledge but also deepened my appreciation for Japan’s rich heritage and educational environment.

One of my key learning experiences in Kagoshima was participating in scientific experiments. I had the opportunity to work in a laboratory setting, where I learned about various scientific methods, laboratory equipment, and procedures. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of experimental techniques and enhanced my practical skills in conducting research.
